Back again at this conference to ply my trade, being of service to myself and others in the performing arts business.
Don't Tell Mama, 343 W. 46th Street (between 8th and 9th avenues), New York, New York
Ken Waldman & The Wild Ones will open and close the evening, and in between Matt Butler does his terrific Reckless Son show.
Ken Waldman & The Wild Ones, Featuring Lydia Garrison, which means Ken Waldman, with Lydia Garrison, and we're waiting to see who's joining us since Ilan Moss now may not make it. But no worries. Ken & Lydia are phenomenal, and whoever will be with them will add to the fun (we now have Erica Weiss joining us, who's terrific--we've done occasional shows over the years). Want to know what's really fun? No cover (just a one-drink minimum)! And preceding us at 9 pm is Michael Daves. Come and make a night of it! It's Ken Waldman's first time at Rockwood. He's excited!
This will be in conjunction with my one-month residency at the Wolff Writer's Cottage, practically next door to the library.
Part of my month-long writing residency will include a visit to this very fine bookstore in downtown Fairhope. I'll have books (and CDs) for sale, and almost certainly will be playing a few fiddle tunes too.
I'll be spending the whole month of December in beautiful downtown Fairhope, Alabama working on a number of writing projects.
I'll be at this lovely spot where I'll play some tunes, recite and read some poems, and enjoy the company of new and old Hattiesburg friends. Expect some guest musicians (like Jack Magee and Shelley Gendusa). It's a great time to pick up holiday gifts (and support the venue).
I'll either be at the theater or will be visiting schools, or will be doing both. More news as I have it!
I'll be returning to this conference, of course. My old college town!
Of course I'll make it through to metro Portland!
I'll be facilitating a session. The conference theme is JOY! And that's what I deliver when visiting schools. I'll be explaining how. Conference begins with an opening reception on Sunday night. Then I'll have a table for two days with Fiddling Poet wares--that's in addition to my workshop session.
I'll be joined by Deb Shebish, Kari Sickenberger, and Adam Tanner. A true roots music variety show with various configurations featuring all sorts of string-band music. Think fun, inspiration, surprises.
Assembling a group for an evening show, plus a morning arts education performance. It'll be another excellent one!
I'll be joined by Staunton VA duo, Janie Rothfield & Allan Carr. It'll be a treat!
It's Harvest Festival Day, and I'll at least be doing something fun with words and music for a young audience. Excellent!
I have a faint recollection of doing something in the big downtown Detroit library more than 20 years ago. Did I? I can't recall. But I'll be doing a set with two excellent Detroit writers this time around. I have the poems, and a new edition of my recent novel (and that new edition means I now have 10 books from Ridgeway Press, an exceptional small press from metro Detroit).
Two shows for middle-schoolers and high-schoolers with an all-star line-up that includes Aaron Jonah Lewis, Lindsay McCaw, Hannah Lewis, Larry & Joe, plus Lucy Long and Steve O'Regan.
Show will include Aaron Jonah Lewis, Hannah Lewis, The Chris Westhoff Duo, Lucy Long & Steve O'Regan, and a guest I can't name until July (but now that it's August, I can say it's Dom Flemons) when tickets go on sale. It'll be quite the event!
I'll be joined by Lucy Long, Steve O'Regan, and maybe other Root Cellar String Band notables.
