I'll be sharing the evening with birthday boy, Ross Thorn, immensely talented Duluth singer, songwriter, roots musician who I met this past August playing at The Northerly's Living Luminaries series. I trust new dad, Kyle Orla, who hosted that night, will be joining us. Me, it'll be the 28th anniversary of my March 2, 1996 plane crash near Nome. We'll be celebrating with fiddle tunes, stories, songs, and more!
This begins my four or five days in and around Grand Rapids through the Reif Center. More details as I have them.
More conference, this time with music pals, friends old and new.
11 readers go on at 6 pm. I'm among the 10 that go on beginning at 7:30 for session #2. Lots of great writers from a wonderful press. I'll have my collection, Conditions and Cures, a book I don't often get to read out of. I'm sure I'll play a fiddle tune too. Afterwards, 9 pm, there's a reception/mixer. Limited seating--attendees need to register. Some links are below:

Reading Session 2
Back again to see friends old and new, all somehow affiliated with the writing and literature and education fields.
Lucky me, I get to play with John Lane at the Our Front Porch series at the museum. My first ever Macomb appearance.
After a workshop, a matinee performance! We'll be taking you to Alaska and back with fiddle tunes, poetry, and stories!
I'll be leading a workshop, SO, YOU WANT TO GO PLACES WITH YOUR ART. It's for artists of all disciplines, all levels of experience, for anyone who want to go further, and be more public than they are now. Music, writing, performance (theater, dance, going on tour), visual art. Everyone can come away with useful lessons.
John Freeman and his band is doing the show, and I'll be doing a set of some kind, almost certainly with an accompanist or two--it'll be a blast!
Writing workshop and then a performance/reading. More details as I have them!
I'll be visiting an elementary school and an intermediate school. Fun and inspiration for all!
Thanks to Poets & Writers, the organization sponsoring the event, I'll be doing a full show with the phenomenal Lydia Garrison joining me. So there will be plenty of poetry on top of fiddle, banjo, guitar, and more. I've learned that William Seward, so instrumental in the purchase of Alaska, has Auburn roots. So, an Alaska show with Alaska poetry and storytelling! But also expect Lydia Garrison singing, and so much more!
Broome County Arts Council, then Atomic Tom's , Binghamton NY
Writing workshop from 5:30 to 7:30, and then we go down the street to Atomic Tom's for music, poetry, storytelling, and more. I'll have friends joining me. More details as I have them.
This latest iteration of the APAP showcase will be an amazing one. Stay tuned!
Back again at this conference to ply my trade, being of service to myself and others in the performing arts business.
Don't Tell Mama, 343 W. 46th Street (between 8th and 9th avenues), New York, New York
Ken Waldman & The Wild Ones will open and close the evening, and in between Matt Butler does his terrific Reckless Son show.
Ken Waldman & The Wild Ones, Featuring Lydia Garrison, which means Ken Waldman, with Lydia Garrison, and we're waiting to see who's joining us since Ilan Moss now may not make it. But no worries. Ken & Lydia are phenomenal, and whoever will be with them will add to the fun (we now have Erica Weiss joining us, who's terrific--we've done occasional shows over the years). Want to know what's really fun? No cover (just a one-drink minimum)! And preceding us at 9 pm is Michael Daves. Come and make a night of it! It's Ken Waldman's first time at Rockwood. He's excited!
This will be in conjunction with my one-month residency at the Wolff Writer's Cottage, practically next door to the library.
Part of my month-long writing residency will include a visit to this very fine bookstore in downtown Fairhope. I'll have books (and CDs) for sale, and almost certainly will be playing a few fiddle tunes too.
